I haven't seen this one. But his two other documentaries, "The New Ruler of the World" and "This is What Democracy Looks Like" are also good. I showed them in class. Monday is Martin Luther King Day in the U.S.. To let students know the kind of oppression and resistance associated with the Civil Rights Movement (and the social movements in the 60s), I showed "The FBI's War on Black America". The harshest critics of U.S. government poliicies are often people living in the U.S.. The term 美國人 is pretty loaded, there are all kinds of 美國人. Another 美國人 who critiques the U.S. is a rapper called Immortal Technique, check this out:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7Vl0peys90 All the documentaries I referred to are at:freedocumentaries.org Many of my students, who are mostly Latino and African American students, have much better politics than 劉曉波 and 司徒華, who blindly worship American style "democracy".WKC
Sorry, one important correction:It should be "Latino and African American WORKING CLASS students"WKC
Just one more thing, the youtube link I posted earlier is called "The Poverty of Philosophy"WKC
謝謝介紹. 要時間細看了.同意美國人這個詞是可圈可點的, Chomsky 都是美國人, 卻不是我所指的那一批.英文 Americans 也是可圈可點, 南美人甚至加拿大人都生活在美州, 卻又不是 Americans.
Dear WKC,Maybe too much to ask here ... would you be kind enough to elaborate what you meant by "have much better politics than 劉曉波 and 司徒華" and "American style "democracy"" ...Thanks ...CWKH
Dear CWKH, For detailed critiques of 劉曉波, please see:http://chinastudygroup.net/2010/10/another-war-mongering-peace-prize-winner/andhttp://chinastudygroup.net/2010/10/debate-about-liu-xiaobo/ Many of my students have better politics than 劉曉波 because they don't support U.S. invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. They also have better politics than 司徒華 and other so called "democrats" in H.K. because they understand that any political system that recognizes universal suffrage while ignoring economic inequality, i.e. "American style 'democracy', is self-defeating. WKC
Sorry, typo, should be "the U.S. invasion of..."WKC
Dear WKC,Thanks so much for the additional info ... surely it is a long and winding road to the ideal of universal suffrage and economic equality ... may we all work hard to see that this may indeed be achievable in the foreseeable future :-) ...Thanks ... CWKH
