I teach in the US, and so the norms might be different. Can you give the student a chance to rewrite the paper and shorten it so it will be within the word limits? This will give him a chance to both learn how to write more succinctly and earn a better grade. Students who are not serious about learning might not take you up on this kind of offer, and so you don't need to worry as much setting a precedent.
Thanks for the recommendation. But I have already uploaded the grade to the registry. It will be a hassle to allow revision of the grade in this way.
Besides, if I permit students to redo the paper, I should open this possibility for all students in like circumstance to do it again. Then, it means that I will have to withdraw all the grading from the registry and wait and grade the relevant papers (for appeal) again.

另,如果做得不好但很用心要加分,那不太用功,但因有天賦而做得好的人是不是應該扣分?

回覆刪除其實大多數時間, 我都祇是想息事寧人.
既不想令對方感到太大的挫敗, 亦不想令自己感到做事沒有原則. 但這兩者之間, 很難取捨.
更重要的是, 如果我加分給他, 他一定會揚開去. 那我就要應付更多學生.
我覺得,身為老師,應該讓他知道他低分的理由。這可能要花費不少時間,但這也是教育工作的一部分。
回覆刪除當他知道自己什麼地方做得不好之後,自然會心服口服。如果他明知自己做得不好,卻依然厚顏地要求你給予高分,這是他人格有問題。他要唱衰你,就讓他唱吧,反正我們做什麼都會有人不喜歡。我們也不可能奉承所有人。
你給他加分,即是打擊其他人的信心;對你的信心,對制度的信心。

你下次可以試下同個學生講"你想我係以質量定數量來評分?" 俾佢選擇。人想要尊重就會傾向前者,之後時間容許,而你又願意,學生又肯聽,就慢慢坐低指出他做得好與不足的地方,讓學生知道下次如何做好一些。

1. 學生是不會看課程提綱的. 他們只會在做功課之前打電話問你呢樣個樣, 然之後你告訴他們這在 teaching plan 的第幾第幾點已經寫過了.
回覆刪除2. 不回覆分數查詢? 會引來投訴的. 因為那意味著你是絕對不會看錯分計錯分. 那也未必.而且校方也不會喜歡有老師對學生這般說話.
我也是在大學教學的。今年一月,一男生來找我,說很難接受最終只得C+的總分,我請他坐下來,很耐心的給他分析:「你在考試得分極低,一題一題給他分析,如 Matching, MC, True or False等,都不合格,essay也錯得離譜。還有,說時要顧存他的面子,關上門,也提出積極的建議,如:不要走堂蹺課、溫書等。在互聯網上遭譭謗,是常有的事。要對得住良心,不要讓小朋友擺佈。
